NOTES: “Austin” is a smooth-made 15-hand bay gelding by Spooks Gotta Whiz and out of a daughter of Hollywood Dun It. He is exceptionally well-trained in the arena and came to us directly from a full-time reining program. We are only his second owners, and prior to us, he had never left the farm where he was raised. Austin has all the reining maneuvers you could ask for, including a fancy spin, a big stop, and a smooth, cadenced lope. He is also learning to really extend his jog and is making an excellent transition into the ranch horse world. Since purchasing him, we have been focusing on ranch riding by jogging and loping over logs, working gates, dragging logs, side passing over obstacles, improving his transitions, and putting plenty of real trail miles on him. He has also been on an overnight camping trip with us, where he stood tied to the hitching rail for two nights without a single issue. He loads, hauls, and unloads with ease. Although the trails were a new experience for him, he handled everything confidently, took it all in stride, and was an enjoyable partner every step of the way. Austin saddles up quietly and rides off gentle, no matter how long he has been sitting. He is the kind of horse that stays trained and is always a pleasure to ride. We’ve hauled him to a ranch horse clinic and our local ranch shows, where he has continued to prove his willing attitude and versatility.
