This little mare will turn around, bend and flex, and has a nice stop. She is very soft in the face and ribs. She’s desensitized to tarps, whips, and you can even shoot a gun off her! She will bow and lay down and let you lay over her to shoot. She opens and closes gates, crosses water, and does well by herself or in a group. She has previous western pleasure training and has a very smooth slow jog and lope, rides one handed, low headed and very leg cue savvy. We have taken her through obstacle courses and traffic and she has been exposed to cattle. She gets along with anything you turn her out with and is great for the shoer. We bought her for a lesson horse and have since gone a different route with our business. She is safe and broke enough for kids or beginners. I cannot say enough good things about her. Standing a stout 16 hands tall and 1500 pounds this stunning standout gelding is sure an eye catcher wherever you take him. He is Hancock ,Leo Hancock Hayes family. This gelding is bred to be an athlete. Sly has been in our string of ranch horses since early last fall. We used him all winter to catch and start a bunch of rank colts. Which he handles with ease as those colts gave him a fight everyday but he just took it in stride as another days work. He has done all aspects of ranch work from tending sick pasture cattle to loading trucks in this brutal Missouri winter. We have had a rough winter here and on snow days we pull the kids around on sleds in the snow. If a trail ride is what you like he does that as well, going over everything you can encounter down the trail. Done several obstacles which he really likes. We have also started him over some fences has a lot of jump to him and very brave to the jump. Sly wears a #2 shoe and is kind with the farrier. Loads and hauls well. I have done an extensive amount of ground work with him. He stands tied, stands for farrier, baths, etc. Selling as green broke but he is really in between green broke and broke (needs more than a light snaffle bit now). He's never had any funny business with me. He definitely needs a confident leader as a rider since he is not an alpha horse in any way. He has been very lightly started on the barrels and he is a very smooth mover. He is nervous about new people but once he trusts you and you take the lead he will follow! He lives with cows and isn’t aggressive towards them. He will track the roping dummy as well. But I’ve never swung a rope off of him. Would make a great all around horse though! He is a healthy, 15.1, Sorrel Tobiano. I have ridden him hard for the past couple of years. He is a pretty horse that can move quickly. He has been used in all sorts of work and is well seasoned. He can operate in the brush and will walk through water. Wichita has been shod regularly for the past couple of years (last shod on 5/6/22), and I clean out his feet each day. Wichita Flash sometimes renegades from hard work and has to be warmed up in a small pen before going out to the pasture. Otherwise, he will try to turn back to the stalls. He has bucked me off three times in the last two years. One time was clearly my fault, as I tied a cow skull to my saddle straps and tried to mount him. The other two times were his fault, the last of which simply because I took him straight to go round up some heifers and didn't warm him up. I mounted him, and he began to buck in the direction of the stalls. I found this last incident intolerable, and this is the reason I am selling him. The other time he bucked was for no apparent reason. So beware, this horse may buck you off and needs to be kept disciplined. Of course, I was not injured at all. If you are willing to cater a little to Wichita's personality, I think you will find a good, strong horse that responds well to a dominant rider that can keep him in check. Click For Video

He started his life on the Wagon Wheel Ranch in Lampasas county. Founded in 1872, The Wagon Wheel Ranch is the largest of the four Gist family properties and is best known for its Foundation Quarter Horse Program. About six miles northeast of Lometa, these 1,914 acres are steeped in heritage. After this he was sold and not much known about his history until he was purchased by a family as a four year old where they occasionally rode. We moved him to our barn to use for lessons. He lost some weight due to being run off of his grain. We adjusted his feed program and he is gaining it back now! This dude is nothing super fancy, but he is honest and kind. There’s is no buck, rear, kick, bite in this horses nature. I also haven’t seen him take a lame step. Since he had a lot of years turned out, he still has a lot of years left. Take him, use him.
